Artist Statement about the work
'I come from the saltwater people
we've always lived by the sea' - Neil Murray
Tasmania is an archipelago of 334 islands. Wherever one turns, there is sea. It is inescapable. I cry salt tears and the salt of the ocean is in my blood and in the blood of all Tasmanians who call it home. Upon her shores, where ocean and land meet, is an ecological system of forever changing designs. This work is one such creation, a myriad of islands formed by elements on the East Coast, and hand stitched to represent Tasmania's saltwater people who live on her shores.

About the Artist
Anne O’Connor is an artist in many mediums, but photography is her passion. Her ideas come from the environment, both natural and human made with specific interest in light, shade, colour, texture and form. It is the relationships between these elements that initiate her response, creating a story to inspire imagination or evoke memories of time or place.
Anne graduated with a Bachelor of Contemporary Art (Visual) from UTAS (2015). She was a finalist in Material Girl Prize (Arts Tasmania 2016/17), The Field Art Prize (UTAS 2015), the Bay of Fires Art Prize (2014) and the Birchalls Art Prize (2014). She was awarded a Masters in Photographic Art by the Federation of International Photographic Art (FIAP) in France 2014. Her work is represented in private collections within Australia & overseas. She is Tasmanian born, spending ten years in Darwin, with Tasmania her home and inspiration.
